Science in the City 2011

August 30, 2011

This year we were again at the Australian Museum to present Lego Robotics and Chemistry to primary and high school students. Science in the City is a major event which happens each August in Sydney. This National Science Week  funded event brings together the best in science communication to deliver science shows and workshops to schools and the general public. Fizzics Education has been working with Australian Museum for several years now to help present this event also in country NSW and around the Sydney metropolitan region. Science events such as this help to build the profile of science in the local community, a critical requirement when looking to address science literacy. It would be fantastic if funding from a local, State and National level  could be coordinated more strongly so that the wheel is not ‘re-created’. Even better would be to see these events spread throughout the entire year with an aim to produce local communities with enough knowledge to run their own self-sustaining event that doesn’t require top-down funding. Time will tell if such a thing occurs…
